Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) activists Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde did not appear before the Delhi Police Crime Branch for questioning on Thursday after being summoned to join the investigation at 12 noon, ANI reported. The three have sought additional time, and the police will issue fresh notices to them.

The Crime Branch had summoned the three to its Rajouri Garden office. The summons came a day after a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court ordered the release of Das and Ranka from judicial custody after accepting their personal and surety bonds and taking written undertakings from them to maintain peace and abide by the law, ANI reported.

SEM Ritu Raj directed Das and Ranka to furnish personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each until the conclusion of the enquiry and to appear on every hearing date. In their undertakings, the two promised not to breach the peace, not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is denotified in accordance with the law, and to hold any future protests within the constitutional framework.

The investigation is linked to the October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar. Police allege the activists entered the area — which had been denotified as a protest site — through private premises and obstructed police personnel; these are allegations that remain subject to investigation, LawBeat reported. The next SEM hearing is listed for October 23.
