Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) on Thursday reported a standalone net profit of Rs 2,271.29 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, up sharply from Rs 731.55 crore in the same quarter last year, The Hindu BusinessLine reported from the company's results. On a consolidated basis, net profit was Rs 2,247.03 crore, against Rs 719.19 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations for the quarter stood at Rs 22,055.45 crore, compared with Rs 20,033.62 crore a year earlier.

The jump was driven by refining economics: CPCL's average gross refining margin (GRM) for the quarter was $20.41 per barrel, compared with $9.04 per barrel a year earlier. Managing Director H Shankar told BusinessLine the company gained from international pricing prevailing at the time and maximised value before taking a planned maintenance shutdown. The performance came despite a 40-day planned shutdown of a major hydrocracker block from September to mid-October; crude throughput was 2.590 million metric tonnes at 98% capacity utilisation.
