India's Deepthi Jeevanji won the gold medal in the women's 400m T20 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday, clocking 56.36 seconds to set a new Games record. The 23-year-old from Telangana finished more than two seconds clear of Japan's Niina Kanno, who took silver in 58.92 seconds, while Kanno's compatriot Akane Kato won bronze in 1 minute 0.26 seconds.

It was India's fifth gold medal of the Games and the country's first gold of Day 2. Jeevanji, a Paris 2024 Paralympics bronze medallist in the same event and the 2024 Para World Championships gold medallist, had won her heat on Monday in 57.57 seconds before producing the record run in the final. The T20 classification is for athletes with intellectual impairments.
