Delhi Police on Thursday informed a Saket court that it has made a request for the extradition of Russian national Viktoriia Basu through the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow, news agency ANI reported. The police filed an Action Taken Report in the case before Judicial Magistrate First Class Deepakshi Rana.

According to the police report cited by ANI, a formal extradition request has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for execution by the MEA and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to trace Basu, and an Interpol Red Corner Notice has also been issued against her. Police said documents submitted by the complainant are being analysed for further action.
The allegation
It is alleged — the claim is the complainant's and has not been proven — that Basu left India with her minor son last year after the Supreme Court had passed a joint custody order. An FIR was registered at Defence Colony police station in 2025 on the complaint of her husband, Saikat Basu, whom she married in 2017.
The husband has alleged that she left the house with her mother without informing him. The custody matter is pending before the Saket district court, and police sought more time while filing their status report on Thursday.

The extradition request now moves through the Home Ministry to the External Affairs Ministry and the Indian Embassy in Moscow. The Red Corner Notice asks member countries to locate and provisionally arrest the person pending extradition.
