The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday, October 24, ordered a repoll at three polling stations of the Agra Division Teachers' Constituency on October 26, amid reports of alleged lapses during voting a day earlier, IANS reported.

The repoll will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday at polling stations number 20, 21 and 26 for the biennial election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, the ECI said in a letter to the state's Chief Electoral Officer.
The Commission directed that persons involved in any unlawful activities that may have caused the irregularities or lapses leading to the vitiation of the poll must not be deputed during the repoll. It also sought a report from the Divisional Commissioner, Agra, by Sunday on the alleged lapses, and said the Commissioner shall fix responsibility on those involved, including police and polling officers.
During the repoll, indelible ink will be applied on the right-hand forefinger of electors — a marker that distinguishes repoll voters. The ECI also said a fresh permission for starting the counting of votes for the constituency must be obtained after the repoll is successfully completed.
How the repoll was recommended
Earlier, the Returning Officer had recommended a repoll at the three booths after Samajwadi Party candidate Aakash Agarwal alleged large-scale irregularities and intimidation, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa forwarded the proposal to the Election Commission, Hindustan Times reported via Inshorts. Those are allegations by a contesting candidate; the ECI's own order speaks of alleged lapses and has sought a report fixing responsibility — no finding against any official has been announced.
