New Delhi: The celebration of the end of Naxalism will be a key focus of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2026, to be held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on October 31, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan said on Wednesday, ANI reported.

"At the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2026, the first and foremost thing is the celebration of the end of Naxalism. All the CAPFs and the State Police forces will march before PM Modi during the parade," Mohan said, according to ANI. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is observed on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Mohan said over 5,000 people from 126 districts previously affected by armed Naxalism would be present on the occasion. The National School of Drama will present a performance featuring 2,000 artists drawn from those 126 districts, recreating what residents lived through when Naxalism was rampant and their lives and properties were threatened by militants, ANI reported.

The announcement came on Police Commemoration Day, when Home Minister Amit Shah said India was freed from Naxalism on March 31, 2026, after decades of violence in which, he said, more than 3,600 security personnel were martyred and nearly 13,700 civilians were killed between 1981 and March 2026, IANS reported. Shah also flagged off a nationwide motorcycle rally of around 90 police riders under the theme 'Fight Against Drugs', which will culminate at Ekta Nagar for the Ekta Parade on October 31, IANS reported.
