New Delhi: Flipkart is preparing to enter India's food-delivery market with a new service called 'Eat-in by Minutes', which will compete with Zomato and Swiggy, according to reports published on Tuesday by TechCrunch and Inc42. The Walmart-backed e-commerce company has expanded its internal trial in Bengaluru from a few hundred employees to around 8,000 staff.

The service will appear as a separate tab on the Flipkart app, alongside the company's travel and quick-commerce 'Minutes' verticals. Restaurants are being onboarded both through the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and through direct sign-ups, and deliveries will be handled by a dedicated rider fleet of Flipkart's logistics arm, Ekart, the reports said.

National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) president Sagar Daryani told TechCrunch that Flipkart has informed restaurant partners it will go public by the end of October and expand to five to six cities by the end of 2026. Flipkart has proposed a base commission of about 10 per cent to restaurants, compared with the 20 to 25 per cent charged by the two biggest platforms, Daryani said.

Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy had announced plans for food delivery in July 2026. Inc42 reported that its queries to Flipkart remained unanswered at the time of publication, so the launch timeline and commission structure have not been formally confirmed by the company.
