A speeding car rammed into an air-release valve of the Krishna drinking-water pipeline near Nagole Metro Station in Hyderabad in the early hours of Tuesday, bursting the main and sending a fountain of water high into the air — while the crash killed the car's driver and knocked out drinking-water supply across large parts of the city.

The accident happened around 3 am near Metro pillars 813 and 814 on the Uppal–Nagole road. Reports citing police and water board officials said the impact damaged the valve so badly that water gushed more than 30 feet into the air, reportedly rising above the metro track, and flowed onto the road for nearly four hours before it could be controlled. Thousands of litres of drinking water were wasted and nearby roads were flooded, causing heavy traffic congestion in the morning.

The driver, identified in reports as 24-year-old Vineeth of Hayathnagar, died in the crash. Police and fire services personnel reached the spot soon after the accident.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) rushed teams for emergency repairs. Supply was disrupted in more than twenty localities, including Uppal, Ramanthapur, Vanasthalipuram, BN Reddy Nagar, Beerappagadda, Autonagar, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Lalaguda, Meerpet, Badangpet, Balapur, Marredpally, Padmarao Nagar, Nallagutta and Vaishalinagar. Officials said water would be supplied through tankers wherever needed and appealed to residents to use water sparingly until normal supply is restored.
