Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh on Tuesday flew a 55-minute final sortie in an HJT-16 Kiran Mk-1 trainer aircraft at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal near Hyderabad, flying with his first flying instructor Wing Commander V.S. Kochar (retd) in aircraft tail number U 707, IANS and ANI reported.
Singh undertook his first sortie on January 28, 1984, in the same aircraft type at the same academy. After the flight he received a water cannon salute and called it a dream come true, saying he may be the only chief retiring while the basic trainer he first flew is still in service, according to ANI.
The Hindu reported the sortie was covered on October 20, 2026 at 7:48 pm IST.
