Partnerships must build capabilities, Jaishankar said in Addis Ababa

The Addis Ababa conference came a day after Jaishankar laid out his vision for the India-Africa partnership in the Ethiopian capital, where he said partnerships of the future must "help create capabilities, not promote dependencies", and called for a reformed UN Security Council with fair representation for Africa, IANS reported.

"It is no longer sufficient to describe India and Africa only through the vocabulary of historical solidarity. History has given us trust," Jaishankar had said, adding that development partnerships need not be prescriptive or conditional and can be based on respect, equality and shared prosperity.
