Daily Kiran, reporting the same recovery with the same quantities, said the operation began after R.S. Pura police received information on October 20 about alleged drug consumption by Sunny Kumar, 26, a resident of Kotli Mirdian in Suchetgarh. The JK Post said police registered FIR No. 186/2026 under Sections 8, 18, 21, 22 and 27 of the NDPS Act.

During the investigation, police said leads suggested the accused's alleged involvement in a narcotics smuggling module linked to a drone-dropping incident. Acting on those leads, the team recovered the narcotics from Talhar. Police have described the possible cross-border connection as a preliminary finding — an allegation under investigation, not an established fact.
Investigators are working to identify the source of the consignment, its intended recipients and other suspected members of the network, police said. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged smuggling operation.
