The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) alleged that Left-wing student groups were behind the writing and claimed objectionable content also appeared alongside a portrait of V. D. Savarkar. These are ABVP's allegations; the identity of those who wrote the graffiti has not been established.

ABVP JNU president Mayank Panchal said freedom of expression should not be used to justify damage to public property or disrespect towards national figures, and the organisation asked the administration to identify those responsible and take action, according to the reports.
The JNU administration has taken cognisance of the matter and is looking into it. An official said the university would not allow vested interests to disturb peace on campus, Jagran Josh reported.
