The Tourism Department aims to establish the Kashmir Marathon as a regular annual event and a recognised brand for the region, and the event is listed on the calendar of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the reports said. Officials said international participation would help showcase Kashmir as a destination for sports tourism.

Separately, aspirants appearing in the Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET), also scheduled for October 25, have urged the Chief Minister to defer the marathon by a week, saying marathon-related traffic restrictions could make it difficult for nearly 30,000 candidates to reach examination centres, Kashmir News Trust reported. There was no announcement of a postponement in the reports.
