The company said the profit decline was largely owing to a change in the fair market value of its investments. On a quarterly basis, profit attributable to owners rose nearly 3 per cent and revenue grew 1 per cent over the June quarter.

Growth was driven by the Trucks and Off-Highway segments, the US and India geographies, and the Connected and Aftersales domains, which helped offset a revenue decline of around 13 per cent year-on-year in the company's top two accounts, KPIT said. Total contract value of new engagements stood at $213 million in the quarter, according to the company's investor update.

KPIT, headquartered in Pune, provides software and engineering services to global vehicle makers — work that sits inside modern cars' dashboards, powertrains and connected systems. The quarterly numbers show a familiar pattern for the quarter's earnings season: revenue holding up while one-off valuation changes pull reported profit down.
