Sen took the first game 21-17 in 19 minutes, surviving a mid-game fightback in which Christie won seven points in a row to close to 17-18. There was no repeat in the second game: Sen raced to a 4-0 lead, went into the break 11-7 ahead and closed out the match when a weak Christie shot found the net, Khel Now's live coverage of the final reported.

The title is Sen's first since the 2025 Australian Open and ends a long wait in a season in which he had earlier finished runner-up at the All England Open. It is also his second Hylo Open crown: he first won this tournament in 2019, seven years ago.

Sen had reached the final by beating France's Toma Junior Popov 21-17, 21-13 in Saturday's semi-final — the win that put him into the title match. Christie advanced after Denmark's Anders Antonsen retired during their semi-final. Before Sunday, Christie led their head-to-head 4-3; Sen has now won their last three meetings, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 2025 All England Open and this final.

Sen's run to the final was set up by his straight-games semi-final win over Popov. Read: Sen beats Popov to reach Hylo final

The win completed a rare Indian singles double in Saarbrücken: earlier on Sunday, PV Sindhu won the women's singles title, beating Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 for her second title of the season. India had finalists in both singles events at the same BWF World Tour tournament, and by Sunday night both had converted those finals into titles.
