New Delhi, Oct 21 — Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured two large government construction orders in India, the company announced on Wednesday, October 21. Both orders went to its Public Spaces, Airports & Health (PAH) vertical and are classified by L&T as 'Large', meaning each is valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore — up to ₹10,000 crore combined (yaani about ₹100 billion in total), The Hindu BusinessLine reported in its market live coverage, with Whalesbook and InvestyWise reporting the same figures from the company's exchange announcement.
The Delhi project: The first order, from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), is for the Government of India's Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 along Kartavya Path in New Delhi. The two structures — a basement, ground floor and seven additional floors — cover a total built-up area of 32.8 lakh square feet. L&T will execute the project on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, covering structural, architectural, mechanical-electrical-plumbing (MEP) and external development works. It is scheduled for completion within 24 months, followed by a five-year operation and maintenance period.
The Amaravati project: The second order, from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, is a design-and-build contract for two office towers on either side of the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre in Amaravati. Each tower will have a basement, ground floor and 47 floors, with a combined built-up area of 37.5 lakh square feet. L&T is responsible for shell and core works, and the project is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
Why it matters: The twin wins add two high-profile public buildings — the secretariat complex that will house central ministries in the capital, and landmark towers in Andhra Pradesh's capital city — to L&T's order book, with the Delhi contract's five-year maintenance clause adding recurring work beyond construction. Timelines and costs, as with all large projects, will depend on execution over the 24- to 30-month construction windows.
