A separate report carried by NewsPoint from IB Times said three units of the train derailed on the up line near Arrah railway station on Sunday morning: the engine, the SLR coach and the H-1 coach of train number 15483, the Alipurduar Junction-Delhi Sikkim Mahananda Express, about 200 metres from platform number two. It said the train had arrived at platform two at 4:12 a.m. on its way to Delhi. The differing counts — two bogies in the PTI report and three units including the engine in the IB Times report — had not been reconciled by railway authorities in the reports available at publication time.

Reporter Post, in a similar account, said railway personnel rushed to the site and began restoration work, that a technical team is examining the track and signalling system, and that officials are looking into why, as reported, the signal shifted towards the Sasaram line and how the train then proceeded in that direction. The exact cause remains under investigation, the reports said.

Nation Path India reported a preliminary East Central Railway account that the locomotive pilot allegedly overshot a red signal — a preliminary claim, not a final finding — and said the train resumed its onward journey from Ara Junction at around 7:23 a.m. after the affected coaches were re-railed. A detailed inquiry is expected to establish the final cause.
