Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday that she will remove her post on X calling Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey a "fake degree kism ke aadmi" — a person of the fake-degree kind. Her counsel made the statement during the hearing of a defamation suit filed by Dubey against Moitra and former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg, and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela recorded the statement and issued summons to both defendants.

Garg, who is sued over remarks in a podcast, told the court through counsel that a request would be made to the podcaster to block or mute the portion of the video in which Dubey was referred to as a "blackmailing kism ke aadmi". Objecting to that word, Justice Gedela remarked that "blackmailer" is an intemperate and absolutely derogatory word that cannot be used for any person, while the rest of the remarks were debatable. Moitra's counsel said the dispute between her and Dubey is political and that she retains her right to question his degree.

Dubey has sought Rs 2 crore in damages, along with permanent and mandatory injunctions, an apology and removal of the allegedly defamatory content. According to his legal notice of September 21, Garg, in a podcast recorded on September 17, called Dubey a blackmailer and claimed he had sought favours connected to the Life Insurance Corporation of India — claims Dubey denies; Garg's counsel said he was discussing GDP numbers and spoke about Dubey only after personal remarks were made against him. The court has not decided whether any statement is defamatory, and the allegations on both sides remain untested contentions.

Moitra's X post had quoted Garg's video and called Dubey a "fake degree" person, LawChakra reported. The two MPs have been before the Delhi High Court earlier: in May 2025, Moitra's own defamation proceedings against Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai were closed after Dubey's counsel said an impugned Facebook post had been deleted and Dehadrai said he would remove his post from X.
