Maruti Suzuki India sold 6,96,654 vehicles in the quarter ended September 30, 2026 — its highest-ever quarterly sales volume, up 26.5 per cent from a year earlier — while its domestic market share rose 2.2 percentage points to 40.8 per cent, according to the company's financial results approved by its board on Tuesday.

Net sales also hit a record ₹50,615.5 crore (INR 506,155 million; yaani over ₹506 arab) in the quarter, up from ₹40,135.8 crore a year earlier, while total revenue rose 26 per cent to ₹53,340 crore, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. Export sales stood at 1,08,119 units, slightly below 1,10,487 units a year earlier, which the company attributed to the challenging geopolitical situation.

Despite the record top line, net profit fell to ₹2,414.9 crore (INR 24,149 million; yaani about ₹24 arab) from ₹3,302.8 crore a year earlier, missing market estimates, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. Operating profit (EBIT) declined to ₹2,803.7 crore from ₹3,382 crore, which the company linked to commodity price increases connected to the conflict in West Asia.

The company said the sharper fall in net profit also reflected a decline in non-operating income because of mark-to-market losses on its invested surplus. For the first half of the year, Maruti sold a record 13,79,378 vehicles, up 27.9 per cent, with half-year net sales of ₹1,00,574.6 crore and net profit of ₹5,767 crore, down from ₹7,060.9 crore in the same period last year.

The results present two opposite signals for investors: demand for the carmaker's small cars and SUVs remains strong — small-car sales rose 35.9 per cent and SUV sales 68.2 per cent in the quarter, with network inventory low at about 17 days and roughly 2,00,000 pending bookings — even as costs and volatile investment income squeeze earnings.
