Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India is transforming from a global “back office” into a “brain office,” with the world now relying on the country's mind-power rather than just its manpower, IANS reported from the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi.

“India's identity is shifting; we have moved from 'talent at scale' to 'thinking at scale.' The world, which once relied solely on India's manpower, now places its trust in India's mind-power,” Modi said, according to the IANS report.
Listing the figures behind the claim, the Prime Minister said nearly 70 lakh new jobs — yaani about 7 million jobs — have been created in a short span under the Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, and that the tax burden for the middle class has been reduced to zero on an annual income of up to ₹12 lakh.
On research and innovation, Modi said India now ranks third globally in research publications and that approximately 1.5 lakh patents were filed in 2025 alone. About 20 per cent of the world's design workforce is based in India, he said, with Indian engineers working on advanced chip designs at the 2–3 nanometre scale, and academic institutions and students having already designed over 300 types of chips. NDTV Profit's summit coverage reported the same patent and chip-design figures.

Modi also pointed to Global Capability Centres (GCCs), saying more than half of the world's GCCs are now located in India and that centres which earlier mainly handled support services are today engaged in high-value work such as cloud engineering, analytics and product development.
As an example of self-reliance, he said domestic production of Penicillin-G has resumed in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme after many years, and that the PLI scheme for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients has attracted investments exceeding ₹5,000 crore — yaani ₹50 billion — and led to nearly 40 projects. The figures and claims above are the Prime Minister's, as reported by IANS.
The remarks were part of Modi's address to the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi, where he also called for a humanity-centred global order and criticised the Congress — both covered separately by Awaaz Punjab.
