Ekta Nagar (Gujarat), October 31 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India has fulfilled its pledge to eliminate Naxalism, claiming that no district in the country remained affected by Left-wing extremism by March 2026 and that the movement's backbone had been broken.

Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas gathering at Ekta Nagar on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 151st birth anniversary, Modi recalled his statement at the same venue a year ago that the country would not rest until it was completely free of Naxalism and Maoism. 'Today, when we are gathered here exactly one year later, that resolve of the country has been fulfilled. The backbone of Naxalism has been broken,' he said.

In the same address, Modi said the country needs to secure its borders, stop infiltration and demographic changes and move towards a secular civil code, according to PTI's report of the speech.

The address followed the day's earlier Ekta Diwas programme at the Statue of Unity, where the Prime Minister paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel and 31 development projects worth Rs 426.71 crore were marked — developments Awaaz Punjab reported earlier on Saturday. This evening speech is the new development: the first time the Prime Minister has publicly declared, at this venue, that the Naxalism pledge he made here a year ago stands fulfilled.

Read the claim carefully

The 'no district left' figure is the Prime Minister's claim, made in his Ekta Diwas address and reported by IANS, PTI and India Today. The reports carried no independent district-by-district verification, and Awaaz Punjab presents the number as the government's claim, not as an independently confirmed count.

What is solid

  • Modi delivered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas address at Ekta Nagar on October 31, on Sardar Patel's 151st birth anniversary
  • In the address he cited 126 Naxal-affected districts in 2015 and said none remained by March 2026

What is only claimed

  • Whether no district in India remains affected by Naxalism is the Prime Minister and government's claim as reported — it was not independently verified in the wire reports of the speech
