The Subansiri Lower project, located across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, has a total installed capacity of 2,000 MW, built as eight units of 250 MW each. With Unit 5, five units — Units 1 to 5 — have now been declared commercially operational, taking the project's operational capacity to 1,250 MW, or 62.5% of its total potential, ScanX reported.

NHPC said the CoD of the remaining three units, totalling 750 MW, will be communicated to the exchanges in due course. CoD is the point from which a unit is treated as commercially operational rather than under construction or testing, ScoutQuest's summary of the disclosure noted.

Unit 5 had earlier been synchronised with the national grid on October 12. NHPC is a Government of India Schedule-A Mini Ratna Category-I enterprise headquartered in Faridabad, and Subansiri Lower is its largest hydroelectric project.
