New Delhi: Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday (October 23, 2026) launched an upgraded, security-focused version of the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app used to record workers' attendance under the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) — VB-G RAM G, the rural employment programme in force across rural areas since July 1, 2026 — according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) statement.
The upgraded app, developed with technical support from IIT Madras, adds device-level security, AI-based verification and safeguards against tampering, along with offline attendance recording for areas without network coverage, the PIB statement said, as reported by LearnThruPractice's PIB note. The Hindu reported Chouhan said the government's priority, while ensuring employment for rural workers, was to protect their wages and ensure public funds are used transparently and for their intended purpose.
Sharing the scheme's progress since its July 1 launch, the Minister said work has been taken up at 31.23 lakh worksites in more than 2.41 lakh Gram Panchayats, providing employment to more than 3.65 crore workers from 2.89 crore households, The Hindu reported.
Nearly 46 crore person-days have been generated under the scheme so far, of which about 40 crore were recorded through face authentication, according to the PIB statement.
The Centre has allocated Rs 95,692 crore — yaani about Rs 95.7 thousand crore — for the scheme in 2026-27, and the total provision including the states' share exceeds Rs 1.51 lakh crore, according to the PIB statement.
