Police probe, CCTV sought, child panel takes cognizance

A local police team has reached the school and begun an investigation, questioning the parents of the eight-year-old and counselling the child, The North News reported, and police have sought the CCTV footage from the school administration. Reports citing police officers said an assessment is considered essential in cases involving children between seven and 12 years of age. The Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken cognizance of the matter and called for an inquiry, including into possible lapses in the school's administration and child safety, while the district education department has initiated its own inquiry, according to reports.

The girl's family has alleged negligence by the school, claiming she remained unaccounted for nearly two hours, that CCTV cameras monitored from the principal's office should have alerted staff, and that some teachers were away on government duty so classes had been combined under one teacher at the time. The family has alleged the older child lured her to the first floor by saying her father had called her. These are the family's allegations, reported by IANS and ANI; the school administration's detailed response and the findings of the police and departmental inquiries are awaited.
