New Delhi, November 1: The Centre has scrapped the special additional excise duty (SAED) on petrol exports while raising the levies on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) exports, according to notifications issued by the Ministry of Finance. The revised rates took effect on October 31, the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

Under the new rates, the duty on petrol exports falls from Rs 2.50 per litre to nil. The levy on high-speed diesel exports rises by Rs 3, from Rs 8.50 to Rs 11.50 per litre, and the SAED on ATF exports goes up by 50 paise, from Rs 10.50 to Rs 11 per litre, under Notification No. 56/2026-Central Excise issued by the Department of Revenue.
The export levies on petrol, diesel and ATF were first introduced on March 27, 2026, against the backdrop of the West Asia crisis, with the stated aim of ensuring domestic availability of petroleum products. The rates are reviewed every fortnight; the previous revision, effective October 16, had set petrol at Rs 2.50, diesel at Rs 8.50 and ATF at Rs 10.50 per litre.
The changes apply only to petroleum products cleared for export. The government has not changed the excise duties on petrol and diesel sold in the domestic market, so the revision does not by itself change what consumers pay at fuel stations in India. The new export rates will remain in force until the next fortnightly review.
