The NPP put total installed capacity at 5,60,545.29 MW in October 2026. The CEA's September 30 figures put non-fossil capacity at 3,08,027 MW against fossil capacity of 2,50,870 MW (44.89 per cent), the report said. Solar is the largest renewable source at 1,71,051 MW, followed by wind at 59,201 MW; renewable capacity excluding large hydro stands at 2,47,181.50 MW, large hydro at 52,064.66 MW and nuclear at 8,780 MW.

Thermal power remains the largest single block at 2,52,519.13 MW, led by coal at 2,31,807.51 MW, while the private sector holds the largest ownership share at 3,02,829.84 MW, according to the NPP data cited by Power Peak Digest. SolarQuarter's MNRE-based report likewise put installed solar capacity at 171.051 GW on September 30, with 35.24 GW of solar added between January and September 2026. India targets 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030. Sources: Power Peak Digest, SaurEnergy and SolarQuarter, October 2026.
