India's Pranav Soorma and Ram Ratan Singh secured a one-two finish in the men's discus throw combined F51/52/53 event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday, with Soorma setting an Asian record of 11.66 metres to win the gold medal, ANI and IANS reported.

Soorma produced his record-breaking effort on his fourth attempt, earning 932 Raza points to take the top spot. Ram Ratan Singh claimed silver with a best throw of 10.35 metres and 809 Raza points. Iran's Alireza Hemami, competing in the F53 category, took bronze with a throw of 20.20 metres — in the combined-classification event, placings are decided by Raza points rather than raw distance alone.

Soorma, a Paris Paralympics 2024 silver medallist in the club throw and a gold medallist at the previous Asian Para Games, was competing in discus at a major event and said it was his second event after his pet club throw. 'It's a new event for me. I am competing in this event for the first time in such a big event. I am very happy to do my personal best and break the Asian record,' he said, as reported by ANI.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated both medallists on X. 'My heartiest congratulations to Pranav Soorma on winning the Gold Medal in the Men's Discus Throw event at the Asian Para Games 2026 and setting a new Asian Games record. Your golden triumph has brought immense pride to Bharat and raised the bar for Indian para athletics,' she wrote, and she also praised Ram Ratan Singh's silver, saying his performance in 'this test of technique and control has earned India a place on the podium'.

The result took India's medal tally at that stage of Day 2 to 28 medals — seven gold, nine silver and 12 bronze — in a haul that also included Simran Sharma's 200m T12 gold and Deepthi Jeevanji's 400m T20 gold in Games-record times.
