AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday urged Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to intervene urgently in the case of Delhi's Race Course Mosque, which faces eviction and demolition fears, ANI and IANS reported on October 20, 2026, with additional reporting by Maktoob Media.

In a post on X, Owaisi said the case needs Rijiju's urgent intervention and listed three points: the mosque is a gazetted waqf property since 1977 but the waqf board did not challenge the demolition order or try to resolve the issue; even the Waqf Amendment Act protects the masjid as 'waqf by user' and past-registered properties remain protected; and the Delhi Waqf Board has not been constituted since 2023, though its CEO could have intervened.

AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan said the mosque's imam, Maulana Mohammed Haroon, told him the Centre's Land and Development Office (L&DO) is set to demolish the mosque in the coming week — this is presented as an allegation/claim by Khan and the imam, not a confirmed government announcement.

IANS reported Haroon, associated with the mosque for nearly 40 years, said in a video that authorities asked him to vacate within six days, electricity and water were disconnected and gates were closed by the L&DO. Maktoob Media reported the L&DO declared the premises unauthorised and ordered vacation within six days on October 19, while mosque representatives dispute that, citing its 1977 gazette listing and heritage listing.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has also approached Rijiju seeking protection for the mosque and adjoining graveyard, according to reports. No formal government decision suspending the eviction was announced in these reports.
