New Delhi: Advocate Vineet Jindal has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police seeking registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut over the latter's social media post referring to the burning of Albania's Supreme Court, ANI reported on Wednesday.

In his complaint dated October 21, addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner, Jindal requested an investigation into the post and sought action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000, ANI reported. Devdiscourse's version of the ANI report said the complaint cited BNS Sections 353(1)(b), 152, 196 and 197, besides IT Act provisions.

The complaint alleges — as an allegation, not a finding — that the post could be interpreted as encouraging violence against constitutional institutions in India. The allegations are yet to be examined by the police, and no finding of criminal wrongdoing has been established, ANI noted.

According to the complaint, the post contains a video depicting fire and destruction and text describing how people in Albania allegedly set fire to the country's Supreme Court over claims it was helping corrupt prime ministers, and also refers to attacks on Parliament, government offices and ministers' residences, concluding that all countries should learn a lesson, followed by 'Especially' and the Indian flag, ANI reported.

Context: BJP leaders on Tuesday criticised Raut over the same post, accusing him of promoting anarchy — allegations reported by IANS — while Raut has previously said he has faith in India's Supreme Court and that his remarks were meant as a warning, LawChakra reported. Awaaz Punjab covered the BJP criticism separately on October 20; this story is the new October 21 police-complaint development.
