Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday condemned the alleged racial abuse of a youth from Tripura by a Delhi-based content creator and warned that the accused would be punished. 'This evil man will be punished. There was a delay in lodging the official complaint, but Delhi Police and Tripura Police will teach him a hard lesson,' Rijiju posted on X, adding that people who tolerate such behaviour are also responsible for the spread of hatred, news agency ANI reported.

The video, which began circulating on Tuesday, allegedly shows content creator Amir Shokeen mocking a youth from Tripura's Gomati district, questioning his nationality and making disparaging remarks about Tripura after the youth identified himself as Indian. These are allegations drawn from the viral clip and complaints about it; the case is under investigation and no court has ruled on them.

The backlash has crossed party lines in Tripura. Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state's Director General of Police to work closely with Delhi authorities to ensure a comprehensive investigation. CPM state secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has demanded a public apology from Shokeen, while Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has called the alleged behaviour intolerable and suggested a joint protest in the national capital, Mirror Now reported.

The Tripura Students Forum Delhi (TSFD) has filed a formal complaint with the Delhi Police's Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER), seeking an FIR against the influencer for alleged racial harassment, cyberbullying and derogatory remarks against Tripura's indigenous communities; the complaint was received by the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police-cum-Nodal Officer for the North-East Region, ANI reported. A complaint has also been lodged with the Tripura Police.
