The pact is a five-year umbrella framework, CIOL reported. It also extends to the joint, tri-service and integrated organisations under HQ IDS, which will facilitate the engagement across the Services.

Under the agreement, Sarvam will design, develop and deploy AI applications for the operational, training and decision-support requirements of the three Services, and provide follow-on technical support, The Hindu BusinessLine reported.

The focus areas include decision support, target acquisition and data fusion across the sensor-to-shooter loop, with human oversight retained on operational decisions, and the AI layer is to be built in India and deployed on sovereign infrastructure, IANS reported.

Through the pact, the three Services and the joint organisations gain access to the same foundation models, the same agentic infrastructure and the same geospatial and perception systems, so doctrine and lessons learnt from one Service's projects can feed the next, The Hindu BusinessLine reported.

"Sarvam exists to build AI in India, for India. To work with the three Services on the nation's defence is an honour and a privilege. We are grateful to HQ IDS for its trust," Sarvam co-founder Pratyush Kumar said, according to IANS.

The company and the ministry did not disclose specific project timelines or financial details of the partnership, Inc42 reported. The agreement is a step in the government's push for self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) and indigenisation in defence, a drive that now extends to artificial intelligence, IANS reported.
