Mumbai City made a fast start. Muhammad Ajsal played a one-two with Noufal and slotted home in the 6th minute after a defensive error — the hosts' first open-play goal of the season — and Zothanpuia doubled the lead in the 27th minute, calmly finishing Noufal's cross with his right foot. Delhi's Mohammad Azhar struck the crossbar before the break, but Mumbai went in 2-0 ahead.

Delhi threw on Akshat Mehra in the 88th minute, and the youngster levelled the match in the second minute of stoppage time: taking a pass from Richard Ndayishimaye, he curled an effort at goal that Rehenesh could only push into his own net. ESPN reported it was a goal on Mehra's ISL debut.

Two minutes later the comeback was complete. Juan Pena sprinted forward in the 94th minute, danced past two Mumbai City defenders and slotted a solo finish past Rehenesh to make it 3-2 and spark wild celebrations among the visitors, Khel Now reported. Pena had earlier seen a long-range effort tipped away by the same goalkeeper in the 60th minute.
