India's benchmark indices closed sharply higher for the fourth straight session on Tuesday, November 3, building on the morning's opening gains. The BSE Sensex settled 1,225.07 points, or 1.62 per cent, higher at 76,917.85, while the NSE Nifty 50 ended 370.05 points, or 1.58 per cent, up at 23,810.85, according to The Hindu BusinessLine's closing market report.

Buying was led by FMCG, financial services and auto stocks, market reports said. Sentiment was also lifted by State Bank of India's strong second-quarter results, reported earlier in the day, and by a sharp overnight fall of over 8 per cent in crude oil prices, which eases India's oil import bill.
The close extends a strong run: on Monday the Sensex had jumped 1,233 points to settle at 75,692.78 and the Nifty had closed at 23,440.80. Traders said the coming sessions will show whether the Nifty can hold above the 23,800 mark.
