India and Sweden are aiming to double bilateral trade and investment by 2030 under their newly upgraded strategic partnership, with emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and innovation at the centre of the push, India's Ambassador to Sweden Anurag Bhushan told IANS on Thursday.

"The two Prime Ministers have set a clear objective of doubling bilateral trade and investment by 2030," Bhushan said. The target was set when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sweden in May 2026 and the two countries elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership and adopted a roadmap for cooperation.

Bhushan said economic cooperation is one of the four pillars of the partnership, alongside security, emerging technologies and trusted connectivity, and people-to-people ties. Since the summit, both governments have been working through a five-year action plan to turn political commitments into commercial outcomes, ANI reported in its account of the envoy's remarks.

A major pillar is the proposed Sweden-India Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor, meant to deepen collaboration in emerging technologies, innovation and advanced digital infrastructure. Bhushan said both countries have strong innovation ecosystems and globally competitive startups.

He pointed to a series of high-level visits and business engagements since the summit — including delegations from Indian states such as Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Goa, with Gujarat to follow, and industry-body visits — and highlighted Gothenburg as a potential hub for collaboration between companies, startups and research institutions from both countries.
