The company calls the project India's 'AI Super Highway'. It will include around 10,000 km of new long-haul fibre across India, will be one of the country's largest AI-ready connectivity networks, and will be integrated with Tata Communications' global network backbone for end-to-end connectivity, MD and CEO Ganesh Lakshminarayanan told CNBC-TV18 on Monday, October 26.

The project will be rolled out in phases. The first phase covers the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor, described as a key AI and hyperscale growth route. Later expansion will include the east coast and western India, including Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar and GIFT City, and the corridors will be linked with international cable landing stations, CNBC-TV18 reported.
Lakshminarayanan said the growing expansion is backed by anchor customer commitments, and that the target customers include hyperscalers and neocloud providers, AI workloads and digital-native businesses, and global capability centres, enterprises and emerging cloud platforms. The company's chief product and technology officer Rupesh Chokshi said the AI economy needs a network built for speed, scale and resilience, CNBC-TV18 reported. Tata Communications shares were trading 1.2 per cent higher at Rs 1,674.2 after the announcement, the channel reported.
