The gold completed a three-medal day for Thulasimathi. Earlier on Friday she took silver in the women's singles SU5 final, losing 18-21, 11-21 to Yang Qiuxia, ANI reported, and she also won silver alongside Nitesh Kumar in the mixed doubles SL3-SU5, where the Indian pair went down to Indonesia's Leani Ratri Oktila and Hikmat Ramdani in the final.

Joshi and Thulasimathi had won silver in the same doubles event at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games in 2023, so Friday's title improves on that finish. Before the doubles final, India stood fourth in the medal standings with 104 medals — 27 gold, 34 silver and 43 bronze — on a day when the contingent's tally crossed 100.

A three-medal day

Thulasimathi Murugesan finished Friday with gold in women's doubles SL3-SU5 with Manasi Joshi, plus silvers in women's singles SU5 and mixed doubles SL3-SU5.
