Other reports named the detained man as Pranjal Thakran (also spelled Thakaran in one report), a 22-year-old engineer from Sonipat in Haryana, and said he was picked up from the Pardesipura area of Indore in a joint operation carried out on Friday after the Mumbai Crime Branch contacted Indore police on Thursday night. He had reportedly arrived in Indore around five days earlier for his brother's medical treatment, The India Cover and News89 reported.

The firing took place in Mumbai's Juhu area on the evening of October 18, when five to six rounds were fired at Shroff's car, The India Cover reported. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver and another person were injured, according to the reports. After the incident, Anil Pandit claimed responsibility for the firing in a social media post claiming links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang — a claim investigators are still examining, and which has not been independently established.

Investigators are examining the alleged support network in the case, including the suspected provision of funds, logistical assistance and weapons to those involved in the attack, and the alleged links between the accused and the Bishnoi gang, IANS reported. Police said the questioning would seek to establish the detained man's precise role and identify others who may have assisted; all allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation.
