Before the latest detention, 11 people had been arrested in connection with the case, according to reports. Mumbai Police have been conducting searches and making arrests in multiple states to establish the roles of those allegedly involved, examining the alleged network behind the shooting — including possible links between the accused, the supply of firearms and the logistical and financial support allegedly provided to the attackers.
What happened on October 18
The firing took place in Mumbai's Juhu area on October 18, when assailants allegedly opened fire at Shroff's car near a football ground. The actor escaped without major injuries, while his driver and a bystander were injured. Police subsequently arrested three alleged shooters in Rajasthan's Kota and made further arrests as the investigation widened to other states, and two firearms and 10 cartridges linked to the case were recovered in Surat, Gujarat.
The Mumbai Police have invoked provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case, and on October 29 a special court remanded the 11 previously arrested accused to police custody until November 6. The alleged gang operative Anil Pandit, who reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack on social media, remains at large, according to police. The police have yet to publicly establish the newly detained suspect's precise role in the shooting — all links attributed to him remain allegations under investigation.
