IANS, in a separate report citing the Telangana Chief Minister's Office, gave the same meeting details and said Telangana will seek Maharashtra's approval to build the barrage across the Pranahita river, a tributary of the Godavari, at a height of 152 metres instead of the previously agreed 148 metres.

Telangana maintains that a 148-metre barrage would not enable it to divert the quantity of water it needs, ANI reported. At a review meeting on October 23, Revanth Reddy directed irrigation officials to prepare technical reports on water availability, the proposed barrage height and the extent of land likely to be affected by submergence in Maharashtra.

Hyderabad Mail reported the proposal in more detail: a 6.517-km barrage diverting 77 TMC of water by gravity towards the Sundilla barrage and on to the Yellampalli reservoir, requiring 524 acres in Telangana and 2,324 acres in Maharashtra excluding the riverbed, at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore — yaani about Rs 120 billion. The long-pending project is expected to address irrigation and drinking-water needs in northern Telangana, including the undivided Adilabad district, IANS reported.
