The Prestige and Above segment grew 6.3 per cent, supported by local-flavour innovations in Smirnoff, the relaunch of J&B Scotch and growth in the luxury portfolio. The Popular segment's net sales value fell 22.7 per cent on a like-for-like basis to Rs 181 crore, hit by Maharashtra's MML-related disruption and policy changes in Karnataka, including excise slab revisions. Advertising and promotion spending rose to 11.6 per cent of net sales value, from 7.6 per cent a year earlier, ahead of the festive season.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Praveen Someshwar said the company delivered a resilient quarter despite a strong prior-year base and regulatory headwinds, while continuing to invest behind its brands. He said the relaunch of J&B Scotch, enabled by the India-UK free trade agreement, offers consumers a compelling proposition, and noted the company's entry into the ready-to-drink segment with Smirnoff Ice.

Shares of United Spirits ended the day at Rs 1,227.40, down 3.35 per cent, underperforming the Nifty, IANS reported.
