Cheranalloor police took the teenager into custody and seized the vehicle. A case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to rash driving on a public way and causing death by negligence. Police are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses.

Reports said the minor is the son of an Additional District Judge and the car is registered in the judge's name. According to the preliminary police report, the teenager was not under the influence of alcohol; his blood samples have been collected for further analysis. The accused, being a minor, is not being named.

The death comes less than two weeks after another fatal luxury-car crash near Kochi airport on October 11, when a Mini Cooper allegedly driven by a 19-year-old struck a scooter and killed three young people. The two incidents have renewed public debate on dangerous driving and accountability on Kerala's roads.
