Sudheesh was serving with the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) and had been home on leave since October 14, The Hindu reported. A multi-agency search followed. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services stations at Mavoor, Mukkam, Vellimadukunnu and Perambra were deployed alongside local boat operators and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units, with specialised scuba diving teams brought in to search the deeper sections of the river, Mirror Now reported.

The operation faced difficult conditions throughout Sunday evening. All the shutters of the Oorkadavu regulator-cum-bridge were open, creating strong and dangerous currents, and heavy rainfall in the catchment areas had left the water muddy and turbid, sharply reducing visibility for divers. With darkness adding to the risk, the search was called off at 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Operations resumed at 8 a.m. on Monday, and the scuba team from the Mavoor fire station located and retrieved the body shortly after the search restarted. The body was taken to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard inquest procedures, Mirror Now reported.
