"Just like Air India and Indigo, he (Vijayakrishnan) has been granted permission to start an airline by the cooperative sector. A team that made the MVR Cancer Centre and the Calicut City Service Cooperative Society a success will work with him to start it," Satheesan said. "Then we will show the world this is Keralam's cooperative sector," he added.

The Chief Minister also said the government would guarantee the money deposited by people in the cooperative sector, and that depositors in cooperative banks should receive the same assurance as those who invest in nationalised and scheduled banks. He congratulated the Calicut City Service Cooperative Society for its charity and development work and called the cooperative movement the backbone of the state's rural and urban economies, saying the expansion of cooperative societies into more development initiatives signalled progress.

Satheesan said the government had put money into the hands of ordinary people and the poor during this year's Onam season and that the increased spending had boosted the economy; he further claimed the government had recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue since the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) last month — a claim made by the Chief Minister at the event. He also warned that the government would not tolerate corruption in cooperative societies and that those who embezzle the hard-earned money of common people should be behind bars.

Reports of the announcement said further details on the airline's launch schedule, fleet, routes, financing and regulatory clearances are still awaited, and those details will decide how the first-of-its-kind venture takes shape.
