Ludhiana: Punjab Police registered 18 to 20 FIRs and rounded up 50 to 52 suspects during an anti-drug enforcement drive at eight identified hotspots in Ludhiana on Saturday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rupinder Singh said, according to ANI.
Singh said the action was part of the Punjab government's ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign and was carried out with the support of the Punjab Director General of Police. Police teams revisited the eight hotspots, and enforcement action was continuing in those areas, he added.

Police said they were still assessing the situation and determining the extent of recoveries made during the operation. Independent local reporting by The Unmute described a cordon-and-search operation across multiple Ludhiana hotspots in which 20 alleged drug peddlers were arrested and 25 additional suspects detained for questioning; police have not yet released a final consolidated figure, so the numbers above are the official figures stated by ACP Singh while the operation was under way.

The drive comes as the Punjab government faces opposition criticism over law and order and the drug trade following the recent killings of anti-drug activists in the state — a political context, not a police finding in this operation.
