The operation was led by senior officers including Additional Commissioner of Police Rupinder Singh, with police teams conducting early-morning raids at sensitive locations known for illicit drug activity, The Unmute reported. Police said narcotics were recovered during the crackdown, with specific details to be released after a detailed operational report is compiled.
Local Punjabi television reports from the same police briefing described raids at eight drug hotspots in Ludhiana, around 50 people rounded up and about 18 cases registered. The exact totals differ slightly between reports and are expected to be clarified in the police's detailed report.
Police also issued a warning to individuals currently out on bail to permanently abandon the drug trade. The operation was carried out under the state's Yudh Nashian Virudh (War Against Drugs) campaign, with support from Ward and Village Defence Committees, police said. All those arrested are alleged peddlers; the allegations against them have not been proved in court.
