According to DCP Crime Harpal Singh Grewal, as reported by TV9 Punjabi, two unidentified attackers on the unnumbered motorcycle fired indiscriminately at the office on the intervening night of October 10 and 11, 2026, and fled after spreading panic. No injury was reported in the TV9 account. Police said the case was registered on the statement of Bhanav Ahuja, a resident of Durgapuri in Haibowal Kalan.

Police said technical investigation, CCTV footage and secret inputs helped identify both alleged shooters. The arrested man was identified as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Hazuri Bagh Colony under Salem Tabri. His alleged accomplice, Gagandeep, a resident of Delhi's Seelampur area, is still absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to trace him. Commissionerate Police Ludhiana also shared a public statement on the case on Thursday.

Police said preliminary questioning indicated that Deepak Kumar allegedly carried out the firing on the directions of two foreign-based alleged handlers — Varinder Charan, said to be of Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, and Jagjit Singh alias Gandhi, said to be of Butahari village in Ludhiana. These are police allegations at the investigation stage and have not been proved in court.

According to police, the two foreign-based men had allegedly demanded a large extortion amount from the immigration office owner, and when he refused to pay, the firing was allegedly planned to create fear. Deepak Kumar, who police said has studied up to Class 10, was produced in court and taken on police remand so that Gagandeep can be traced. Police said legal proceedings have also been initiated against the alleged foreign-based conspirators, and raids are continuing for the remaining accused.
