Ludhiana: A 49-year-old woman who had returned from Australia four days ago was stabbed to death at her home in Vikas Nagar, on Pakhowal Road in Ludhiana, on Saturday evening, TV9 Punjabi and Hindustan Samachar reported on Sunday. The woman, identified as Kamaldeep Kaur, was found lying on the floor of her home with multiple knife wounds and was taken to Deep Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Dugri police station SHO Gurmukh Singh told TV9 Punjabi that Kaur had returned to Ludhiana four days ago and had picked up her husband, Ravinder Singh, from Amritsar airport two days ago. The SHO said the husband is alleged to have stabbed her in the back and abdomen, and that he has been arrested. The couple had quarrelled over something, the SHO said, adding that the reason for the killing is still being investigated.

The couple's son, Gagandeep Singh, alleged that his father had sent him out to fetch milk, a mirror and juice, and that when he returned home between about 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm on Saturday he found his mother lying in a pool of blood. He alleged that his father suspected his mother and had argued with her, and that the knife had allegedly been washed and kept in the kitchen. These are the son's allegations, reported by TV9 Punjabi; they have not been established by police. Gagandeep Singh said he informed Dugri police station, after which his father was arrested, and that there are no CCTV cameras inside or outside the house.

A neighbour, Narinder Kaur, told TV9 Punjabi she heard the son screaming for his mother after returning from the gurdwara and saw the body on the floor inside the house. She said Kamaldeep Kaur had arrived only four days earlier and her husband two days earlier.

Police said an investigation has begun, evidence is being collected from the spot, and the full picture will become clear only after the investigation. Hindustan Samachar's Punjabi service also reported the killing from Ludhiana on Sunday, naming the woman as Kamaldeep Kaur, 49, and reporting that the husband had been arrested and the son had accused him of the murder.
