What the family and Opposition allege
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia alleged on X that Daljit Singh died due to drugs and that police forcibly took the body while the family was sitting in protest on the Sirsa-Mansa road demanding justice. Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said the police action raised serious questions. BJP leader Ravneet Bittu also slammed Punjab Police for allegedly forcibly taking the body away and shared a video of the incident, according to the reports. These are allegations by Opposition leaders and have not been established as facts.
SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal alleged that police forcibly took the body without the family's consent and urged the National Human Rights Commission to take cognisance. Quoting the family, she wrote that they said their son died of a chitta overdose - an allegation the family has made and police dispute.
What police say
The Mansa Superintendent of Police said the drug-overdose claim was based on misinformation and that it was found the body had been dumped from a vehicle. Police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder), the SP said, adding that peaceful protests are permitted but not those that disrupt law and order, and that no one had been taken into custody at the time of reporting, HindFirst reported.
