Security agencies were put on alert in Bhayandar in Maharashtra's Mumbai Metropolitan Region after a threatening email warned of bomb attacks on Bhayandar railway station and Bhayandar police station, IANS reported. The Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police headquarters received the email at around 3 pm on Wednesday.
Taking the threat seriously, police launched security checks at both premises and deployed a dog squad to search for any explosive device. According to reports, the search found nothing suspicious at the locations named in the email.
The email, sent in the name 'Vaishali Rumde 9802', mentioned Ujjwala Savarkar, a 72-year-old woman who lives in Virar. It also contained an unverified claim about a killing and alleged that a bomb had been brought from the United States and planted. Police have not verified any of these claims, which are reported here only as the contents of the threatening email.
Bolinj Police traced Savarkar and began questioning her to establish whether she sent the email or whether someone misused her identity. She reportedly told police that her mobile phone had been lost.
Investigators are now tracing the origin of the email and verifying the identities of the people named in it. Police said the investigation is ongoing to establish the motive behind the threat and identify who sent it.
