Family allegation and the police case

Shinde's family alleges that company employees confined and assaulted him and then staged the hanging to make it look like a suicide. Police say that account is under investigation and has not been verified. The family's allegations are reported here as allegations only.

After a complaint from the family, police inspected the scene and registered a murder and kidnapping case against the finance firm owner and others, and one suspect has been detained, according to the reports. Nanded police say the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem examination, and that further arrests or charges will follow the forensic findings.

Local residents cited a Maharashtra government directive that barred lenders from visiting drought-affected farmers' homes for loan recovery, and the case has raised wider questions about coercive recovery practices by private lenders against small farmers who rely on very small loans.
